LIFT is a web magazine for the adventurer in all of us (not necessarily the gym goer) -- successful men and women who work hard and play harder. Fitness isn’t about living at the gym, it’s about living at your peak, no matter what stands in your way. It’s about obeying the alarm clock, peeling yourself out of bed, and finding that extra hour most people think they’ll never have.

LIFT items are selected either by myself or by one of my guest editors. If you have a cool tip, please share it with me! And, no, you can't pay to be featured on LIFT. That's what advertising is for, and it's clearly labeled as such. I do not want to destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of this blog.

For the most part, I take the photos ... but from time to time I use Getty Images, iStockphoto (where I am currently a stock photographer) and Bauer-Griffin.

BlogBurst.comLastly, this site is syndicated through Blogburst, so it's likely that you'll see LIFT on Fox News, Reuters, or USA Today.com.

I hope that you continue to enjoy LIFT. I look forward to publishing it.

Is it time to trade in your barbells for bar stools?

Drinking-and-Heart-Health.jpgActually it turns out it's the combination of the two that can add years to your life. So drink a Little, stay active, and save Your Heart!

According to a new study published today, experts found that people who did not drink alcohol or perform any exercise had a 30% to 49% higher risk of heart disease than those who either drank, exercised or did both.

The study, published in the European Heart Journal, followed 11,914 Danish men and women over a period of around 20 years. The researchers found that non-drinkers had a 30% to 31% higher risk of heart disease compared with moderate drinkers. In fact, those who had at least one drink a week and were physically active had a 44 percent to 50 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who were physically inactive and didn't drink.

Moreover, the study went as far to say that people who were physically active and had a drink a week had up to a 33 percent lower risk of dying from any cause!

I'll drink to that!
