LIFT items are selected either by myself or by one of my guest editors. If you have a cool tip, please share it with me! And, no, you can't pay to be featured on LIFT. That's what advertising is for, and it's clearly labeled as such. I do not want to destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of this blog. Plus, I'll never earn your trust that way.

For the most part, I take the photos ... but from time to time I use Getty Images, iStockphoto (where I am currently a stock photographer) and Bauer-Griffin.

I hope that you continue to enjoy LIFT. I look forward to publishing it.

Australian kayakers arrive in New Zealand after a 2000 mile adventure

Australian-Kayakers-Reach-N.jpg

Rock climbing gym membership? Check.
Dirt bike for braving urban mega-potholes? Got it.
Hiking boots for holiday shopping marathons? Laced and ready.

When you live in a place where open water is hard to come by and the only place to bundle up is the freezer aisle at the local grocery store, you take your adventures where you can get them.

Not these guys though, they went in search of it. Two Australians got ambitious and paddled themselves into the record books by successfully completing the first trans-tasman crossing by Kayak. The two men, James Castrission, 25 and Justin Jones, 24, both from Australia, paddled 62 days crossing the Tasman Sea using their custom built fiberglass kayak, battling strong winds and tides that spun them in giant circles and forced them to change their original plans.

They completed the last few miles flanked by a huge entourage of fellow kayakers, pleasure crafts and two Maori war canoes ahead of a triumphant reunion with family and friends on the beach before a big crowd of well-wishers.

Ironically, they arrived penniless and shoeless ... with no ambition to paddle back!
