In addition to blogging about products and people that bring exciting innovations to our lives, I thought we needed to expand and discuss Fitness Food, so I'm introducing a new section that will be an essential guide to fueling our bodies for an adventurous lifestyle.

There are many blogs about dieting, but using food as energy has sadly been missed. Whether you are a competitive sportsperson or simply someone who enjoys physical recreational activities, a healthy diet will provide you with the energy and nutrients your body needs to be able to enjoy an active life. Nourishing your body with top-quality fuel and staying away from so-called traditional diets will make physical activity much more enjoyable and will greatly improve your health and well-being at the same time.

So starting tomorrow, please check out Fitness Food -- it will offer entree suggestions, recipes, and serving suggestions to make complete meals, snacks, shakes, and even desserts!

Most champagnes require the addition of sugar in the winemaking process to mask the flaws. Not so with the French wine Ayala, credited with starting the trend toward zero- and low-dosage champagne, which is newly available stateside. Its winemakers boast that their base wine is so good it needs no additives, and chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, who pours Ayala as the house champagne at his restaurants, agree. $40 to $120 per bottle.

You can’t sleep. You’re tossing and turning. The person next to you is just lying there, sleeping like a baby.

No, like a brick. Will you ever get to sleep?

Welcome to the world of insomnia: Your baseline energy level, due to lack of sleep, is only slightly above that of a two-toed sloth. You’ve downgraded your definition of a good night’s sleep to a few hours. And, at this point, you’ll try anything.

May I suggest a recently imported product from Canada? The Glo to Sleep™. It was designed to create a powerful focusing effect so you can easily reach the relaxed alpha wave state. Simply . . . it will switch off your mind! So tuck yourself in, and let the magic take hold. Better sleep will reduced stress, anxiety, irritability, and depression. Improve energy, concentration, alertness, memory, judgment, problem-solving ability, decision-making ability, motivation, and creative thinking. Diminish physical pain and discomfort. Improved overall health and increase productivity, coordination, and effectiveness. Decreased reaction time and accidents. Did I cover everything? ... All this, and it’s all totally safe.

Hey, it can’t be worse than the Ambien/caffeine roller coaster you’re currently on.

Wanna give it a try: I've got one to give away for FREE (not bad, since it retails for $69.95). Just leave a comment telling me how much sleep you get (or don't get), and I'll do the rest.

But lack of gravity hurts, too: when astronauts return from long-term stints in space, they sometimes need to be carried away in stretchers.

Gravity is not just a force. It's also a signal -- a signal that tells the body how to act. For one thing, it tells muscles and bones how strong they must be. In zero-G, muscles atrophy quickly, because the body perceives it does not need them. The muscles used to fight gravity --like those in the calves and spine, which maintain posture-- can lose around 20 percent of their mass if you don't use them. Muscle mass can vanish at a rate as high as 5 percent a week.

For bones, the loss can be even more extreme. Bones in space atrophy at a rate of about 1 percent a month, and models suggest that the total loss could reach 40 to 60 percent. These effects are physically devastating to astronauts.

Enter: The Vertical Treadmill. NASA is now using a new treadmill that allows people to run while suspended horizontally to help astronauts prepare for long-duration missions to the moon and beyond. The treadmill simulates zero gravity by suspending human test subjects horizontally to remove the torso, head and limbs from the normal pull of gravity. Participants are pulled toward a vertically-mounted treadmill system where they can run or walk. The forces against a test subject's feet are precisely controlled and can mimic conditions of zero gravity in low Earth orbit or conditions on the moon, which has one-sixth the gravity of Earth. In addition to simulating exercise protocols, the device may be used to imitate the physiological effects of spacewalking.

Spot On: Know Your Place In The World

Adventure seekers can now leave a digital trail for friends back home to trace via SPOT Satellite Messenger.
